My issues with Catholicism...

This isn't a list to put off people from
wanting to be Catholic or those firm in their
faith. These are just my personal issues with
the Church. If you're Catholic and happy
with it, rock on!

1) Mary was a virgin forever and ever.

Some Catholics freak out at the thought of Mary
having sex. She was a human after all, with
feelings and desires. She was the wife to Joseph
and the Bible talks of their children.

Mary wasn't God and she had other children with Joseph.
It doesn't matter, the father of Jesus was God. The father
to her other children was Joseph.

There is NO biblical backup to her forever virginity.  Even
my Catholic Bible says in the connotations that it doesn't confirm
or deny Mary's forever virginity.

2)  It's REALLY hard to become a Catholic.

RCIA is just a joke. There's no Biblical backup
making people wait a year for baptism and communion. It's
basically like a country club that's really hard to get into.

3) It goes out of it's way to exclude non-Catholics from
things given to ALL Christians in the Bible.

"for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations"
- Isaiah 56:7

It wasn't fun sitting in the church during Mass and they
only let Confirmed Catholics get communion. No biblical backup
again for this behavior.

Christianity is for ALL people, and communion thereof.

4) Mary elevated above Jesus Christ.

Mary was pure enough to bring Jesus into this world, but it
rather ended at that. She's not mentioned much in the New
Testament actually if you think about it. We have all these things
in Catholicism based on her but there's no backup again the Bible.

5) Jesus is our only necessary intercession.

Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather,
that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God,
who also maketh intercession for us.
- Romans 8:34

 That's pretty self explanatory.

6) Different levels of sin.

James 2:10 - For whosoever shall keep the whole law,
and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is
death; but the gift of God is
eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Some sin you can pray for forgiveness yourself,
but others you must see a priest. Christ is our only intercessor
so that's just pointless. That's a man made rule.

7) No Biblical backup for Purgatory.

8) You tend to leave Jesus alone, there are saints
for what you want to pray.

You get this feeling you shouldn't bother Jesus, so you
pray to Mary and the Saints. That's fine, but over time you
tend to lose the personal connection to Christ.

9) Church has NO place in the bedroom.

I can't tell you how many times I read and talked with
other couples who had issues with painful intercourse
and had to go against the church.

It is a sin in the Church to ejaculate outside of a
woman's body.

Some people can't have penetrative
intercourse. That severely limits what they
can do with their spouse. It is ridiculous that
the church has it's nose in people's sex lives.

There is NO biblical backup to this belief.

10) Position of women in the Church.

It's promoted for women to work, and be part
of society. It's also a sin to use birth control. You
can't hold down a job with 10 kids at home.

You can't modernize part of the church and keep
the other half in the Middle Ages. It doesn't work that way.

11) You can't keep your loved one's cremated ashes
at home.

This is what started me quitting Catholicism. The
Church has control issues and can't quit micromanaging
stuff like this.

NO BIBLICAL BACKUP. It's fine for Grandma to sit
on the mantel chilling at home.

12) How the Church treats trans and gay/lesbians

Basically the mantra is be celibate and don't
love anyone. It's hard for lots of people to
believe that "God is love" (1 John 4:8) when
they condemn those who suffer already in a very
judgmental world.

The Catholic Church has done lots of good and lots of
bad in the world. It needs to decide what it IS though. Is it
the traditional Catholic church or is it getting modernized?
It really can't make it's mind up it seems.

Haven't blogged because I'm sick...

I haven't blogged the past week because I got Norovirus last Friday. Charcoal tablets are pretty awesome, only reason I didn't ...
